Why text?

- Works anywhere. Quiet office, late night, slow connection: text needs almost no bandwidth.
- Language practice. Add a language and an interest and practise with someone who shares it.
What the other person sees
Only what you choose to share: an optional display name, the language you speak, your country (you can keep it private) and your interests. Never your email, your phone number or your exact location. randomstrangers.chat does not ask for any of those.
How long messages are kept
Messages pass through randomstrangers.chat’s server so they can reach your partner, and are held briefly in memory after the chat ends so a report can include them. Then they are discarded. Nothing is kept for advertising. Details are in the privacy notice.

Do I need a camera for text chat?
No. Text chat needs no camera and no microphone.
Are text chats private?
Messages are encrypted in transport but pass through our server. They are kept in memory for about 15 minutes after a chat ends so a report can include them, then discarded.
Can I send photos?
Photo sharing is currently turned off.
How do I leave a chat?
Press Next for a new stranger or Stop to leave. Report and Block end the chat instantly.
